Introduction
- After your A-Levels, University isn't the only option open to you.
- Based in the Careers Room, Mrs Elliot can offer advice on alternative options such as apprenticeships.
- The Government's official Apprenticeship Search website provides details of local options.
- In addition, apprenticeships that are shared with the School are pinned to the noticeboard in the Sixth Form Centre.
- An apprenticeship is a paid job with training and qualifications. Higher and degree apprenticeships are aimed specifically at students with A-levels/equivalent. They give you a higher-education qualification - even a degree - and you can train for a high-skilled role in industries such as engineering, software engineering, public sector, law and healthcare.
- Higher apprenticeships allow you to train for a highly skilled job. Unlike university, you don't have to pay – in fact, you'll get paid a wage by your employer. You'll learn by doing the job you're training for, and study for qualifications along the way – you could even finish with a degree.
